The younger Dr Kaka’s dream to become an orthodontist developed as a child, inspired by his father’s positive influence. Seeing first hand how an orthodontist can change lives and how a beautiful smile can enhance one’s self-esteem, Dr Kaka developed an interest in this speciality and made it his goal to join this wonderful profession.
Education and Experience
To prepare for his career creating wonderful smiles, Dr Kaka attended the best dental schools and training programmes. Dr. Kaka graduated as a Dentist from The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in 2003 with a Bachelors Degree in Dentistry (BDS), where was awarded the Medal of the Dental Warehouse for the “Most Distinguished Final Year Student”. Thereafter he ran a successful dental practice at the Netcare Milpark Hospital while simultaneously undertaking a Diploma in Orthodontics at the University of Pretoria (Dip. Odont).
Dr Kaka then achieved his FCD I after successfully passing his Primaries in Orthodontics at the College of Medicine SA. At the same time, Dr Kaka continued lecturing and teaching at the University of the Witwatersrand Dental School’s Orthodontic department.
In 2011 he was offered a post to specialize in Orthodontics at The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in their highly acclaimed Orthodontic programme. During his specialty training he had the opportunity to spend time at the University of Michigan (USA) where he undertook an Orthodontic research project in facial growth and development under one of the world’s most distinguished Orthodontists, Professor James McNamara. Dr Kaka completed his studies and training at Wits University and successfully passed the orthodontic examination and is now registered as a qualified specialist Orthodontist with a Masters in Dentistry ( M.Dent)
Dr Kaka also completed his Invisalign training overseas and was later appointed as a Consultant for Sirona Dental System where he was trained in Germany by Sirona Dental Systems. He currently trains other dental professionals on behalf of Sirona and delivers lectures in Orthodontics and modern ortho technology to his peers. As a member of the American Association of Orthodontists he attends their annual conference in America on a yearly basis. He is currently also a Faculty lecturer and supervisor at the University of the Witwatersrand Orthodontic department.

Outside the Office
On a more personal level Dr Kaka is married to Dr Tasneem Kadwa, a medical doctor. They have two young sons aged 4 and 8 years old. Away from the office Dr Kaka is a devoted father and husband. He is an avid sportsman who still plays weekly soccer matches, does road running and most of all enjoys cycling, having completed various cycle races around the country including the gruelling Tour Durban where he cycled from Johannesburg to Durban over four days.
